The former singer of the hard rock band Uriah Heep, John Lawton, is dead. As the band announced, he died at the age of 74 – peacefully at the side of his wife.
He was 74 years old. John Lawton, ex-singer of the British rock band Uriah Heep, died on June 29, according to the band. Death occurred completely unexpectedly. He did not suffer from any illness. “He died peacefully at his wife’s side,” it said.
Lawton sang with Uriah Heep from 1976 to 1979. He was involved in the production of several albums including “Firefly”, “Innocent Victim” and “Fallen Angel”. The song “Free Me” was particularly successful from this time. Uriah Heep guitarist Mick Box paid tribute to Lawton by saying, “Rock music has lost one of its greatest rock voices of all time, and its legacy will live on forever.”

Lawton had close ties to Germany. Before and after his time with Uriah Heep, he was a member of the German rock band “Lucifer’s Friend” for several years. For a long time he was also a member of Les Humphries Singers, which was founded in Germany. Uriah Heep co-founder Ken Hensley died in November at the age of 75. The London-born rock legend played for Uriah Heep from 1970 to 1980.
