Stars around the world mourn the passing of US rock musician Meat Loaf on social media.

The death of music legend and multi-talent Meat Loaf (1947-2022) has sparked a wave of grief on social media. Music greats like Cher (75) and Boy George (60) bid farewell to the US rock musician, who celebrated his big breakthrough in the 1990s with his rock ballad “I’d Do Anything for Love (But I Won’t Do That)”.

“Had so much fun with Meat Loaf when we made ‘Dead Ringer'”, Cher recalled via Twitter of their 1981 song “Dead Ringer for Love”. “I’m so sorry for his family, friends and fans. Am I imagining it or are amazing people dying in art every other day?!” the singer asks finally.

Boy George also writes on Twitter: “Rest in peace Meat Loaf. Love and prayers to his family and all his friends. He once turned me on my head in a Chinese restaurant in St. Johns Wood.”

British screenwriter and actor Stephen Fry (64) remembered via Twitter recalls a sketch he performed with Meat Loaf on Saturday Live and credits the late singer with “a rare ability” to be “simultaneously terrifying and endearing.”

British presenter Piers Morgan (56) paid tribute to Meat Loaf as a “talented, flamboyant, witty, outrageous, and rebellious chameleon”.

German stars also mourn

And in Germany, too, the death of the US musician causes grief. “It breaks our hearts” writes about actor Armin Rohde (66) on Twitter. Entertainer Simon Gosejohann (46) “always liked Meat Loaf”: “Take care, you hearty warhorse”, he continues to write.

Meanwhile, too on the singer’s Facebook account A lengthy post on behalf of his family has been published “We know how much he meant to so many of you and we truly appreciate all of the love and support as we move through this time of grief as we share such an inspiring artist and beautiful man have lost”, it says there. We thank you for your understanding and ask for privacy. “From his heart to your souls… never stop rocking!”
