Mountain sports: fear is always there – knowledge

Risk, kicks, relaxation: what are we looking for on the mountain? The psychologist and mountain guide Pauli Trenkwalder explains what mountain sports have to do with personality, whether intuition can be learned in dangerous situations and how one can deal with fear.

From interview:

Outside the hay is being turned with loud tractor noises, so that Pauli Trenkwalder has to close the window for the video call. We catch him at home in South Tyrol, at home with his wife, daughter and dog, before he goes back to the mountains a few days later and he is out and about a lot over the summer. Trenkwalder, whose father was the head of the local mountain rescue, is a psychologist, mountain and ski guide and therefore the perfect person to talk to if you want to know how the mountain and fear are connected.
