Mountain climber falls to his death on the Zugspitze – Bavaria

Another mountain climber has died while climbing the Zugspitze. The man from Poland was climbing Germany’s highest mountain with two companions on Wednesday, police announced on Thursday. According to the findings, the three men were walking through snowy terrain around 30 meters apart from each other. Near the Irmenscharte, the two front climbers noticed that the 40-year-old was no longer following them.

They then saw him sliding down the Höllentalferner glacier. He had apparently fallen several hundred meters. The two climbers made an emergency call. A rescue helicopter arrived, but the emergency doctor could only confirm the death of the 40-year-old, the police said. Investigations into the circumstances of the accident are ongoing.

Just last week, a mountain climber had a fatal accident while climbing the Zugspitze. The police and mountain rescue service point out that there is still a lot of snow in some areas at higher altitudes. Specialist knowledge and good risk management are required. Walking through snow passages is extremely critical, they said.
