First a serious accident, then victory for the local hero and a disappointment for the world champion: This is what the media says about the Monaco Grand Prix.

Ferrari driver Charles Leclerc has won his first Formula 1 home race in Monaco. The 26-year-old won on Sunday in the Ferrari ahead of Oscar Piastri in the McLaren and his team-mate Carlos Sainz. The international press writes:

Great Britain

“The Sun”: Charles Leclerc ended his Monaco curse with a win in his home race. But in truth it was an extremely boring race with ZERO overtaking in the top 10 and the cars in first to tenth place finishing in exactly the same order as they started.”

“Daily Mail”: “A crashing first lap and then utter boredom. That was the 2024 Monaco Grand Prix, where Charles Leclerc overcame a streak of bad luck to win on home turf.

“The Guardian”: “This is Leclerc’s sixth attempt to win the race and now that the 26-year-old has done it, he can truly consider his Monaco curse broken by becoming the first Monegasque to win here since the Formula One World Championship began in 1950.”

“The Telegraph”: “Tears of joy for Charles Leclerc but ‘boring’ Monaco Grand Prix raises new questions about future of race.”

“Marca”: “Charles Leclerc has achieved his first victory at the Monaco Grand Prix at the third attempt, his most longed-for triumph, in front of his home crowd, which was denied to him by various mishaps in 2021 and 2022.””Mundo Deportivo”: “In life you have to believe. And when you fall, get up again as many times as you need to to achieve what you are pursuing. Charles Leclerc’s dream was to win in the streets of his city, the Principality of Monaco. Luck and fate made him wait longer than he hoped. He came close far too many times. But time and time again he fell again. But he tried again. And it came, the reward of his life.””As”: “Monaco was Monaco. Accidents, celebrities, Mbappé and a racing procession through the streets of the Principality. The fastest traffic jam in the world did not disappoint, it was exactly what you expected.”

“Corriere dello Sport”: “Crazy Leclerc in Monaco. What a jump into the sea after the victory.”Gazzetta dello Sport”: “Leclerc, you are the Prince of Monaco! Ferrari delirium: they win in Monaco again after seven years.” “Tuttosport”: “Leclerc in tears between joy and pain.”

“L’Équipe”: “Leclerc has put an end to the curse. After five failures in his national Grand Prix, Charles Leclerc triumphed in Monaco on Sunday.”

“Le Monde: “Patience and perseverance… Monegasque Charles Leclerc (Ferrari) won the Monaco Grand Prix for the first time in his career on Sunday 26 May.”

“Kronen Zeitung”: “The spell is broken! Charles Leclerc has won for the first time in his career at his home GP in Monaco. The Ferrari driver did not let the start-finish victory slip away from him” “Kurier”: “Home victory for Ferrari star Leclerc in Monaco, crash and debacle at Red Bull”

“Blick”: “Typical Monaco GP! After the positions have been taken, first-time winner Charles Leclerc does his laps at the front. But it takes 45 minutes until then. Because of the violent crash at the start involving Pérez, which results in a wreck and the red flag.”
