Modern slavery near Toulouse: the two executioners sentenced

A 36-year-old mother and her 29-year-old brother tried since the beginning of the week before the assizes of Haute-Garonne were sentenced to respectively 17 years and 3 years imprisonment.

She was found guilty of kidnapping, torture and aggravated rape. Her brother was prosecuted and found guilty of the only complicity of aggravated rape.

Penalties less severe than requisitions

During two years from 2017 to 2019 in Carbonne south of Toulouse, the victim, a frail young woman who is 30 years old today has known hell on earth: deprived of food, forced to do housework, to undergo torture and mock drowning until rape. The victim, weakened by the four days of trial, did not attend the statement of the sentences pronounced.

The Advocate General had requested 20 years’ imprisonment for the mother of the family and 5 years for her brother. The verdict and therefore less burdensome than the requisitions.

In addition, the mother of the family retains parental authority while waiting for a family court judge to rule on the case. THE five children in the family now aged 10 to 17 have also been abused.

Convicts have 10 days to appeal.
