Missing American on Tuesday was found dead, suspect arrested

A hitchhiking race that would have turned into a drama? Russian investigators who had been looking for a missing American since Tuesday announced this Saturday that they had found her body, and arrested a man suspected of having killed her.

Catherine Serou, 34, disappeared Tuesday evening after leaving her apartment in Nizhny Novgorod, 400 km east of Moscow, and leaving in an unidentified car.

One last disturbing text

“In the car with a man I don’t know. I hope I am not being kidnapped, ”said the last text message sent to his mother.

The mother, Becci Serou, explained that it was possible that her daughter, who had a very rushed race to complete, a history of bills to settle in a clinic, did not have the patience to wait for her Uber and had hitchhiked.

A resident of Nizhny Novgorod arrested,

“Today, after a large-scale search operation, we discovered the body of the young woman,” the Investigation Committee, charged in Russia with investigating important crimes, said in a statement on Saturday.

A resident of Nizhny Novgorod in his forties, known to the police to have already been convicted of several serious crimes, was arrested, the statement added.

Rescue teams and many volunteers had participated in the search, in a wooded area near the city, where the last signal of the young woman’s phone had been located.

She was enrolled in a master’s degree in law at the city’s university, and then planned to return to the United States to work as a lawyer specializing in immigration issues.
