Missing 16-year-old girl is believed to be dead

According to the police, a body found in Baden-Württemberg on Thursday is probably the missing 16-year-old schoolgirl from Remshalden (Rems-Murr district). “We assume that it is the missing person,” said a police spokesman. It is still unclear how the girl died.

The body was discovered in Lenningen (Esslingen district) on a steep and difficult-to-access slope. To clarify the circumstances of death, a special commission with 35 officers was set up, said the police headquarters in Reutlingen and the public prosecutor’s office in Stuttgart. An autopsy is expected later today to determine the cause of death.

The teenager disappeared a week and a half ago. She left her parents’ house on January 24, but instead of going to her school, she took the train to Kirchheim unter Teck. From there she boarded the Teckbahn in the direction of Lenningen. After that, their trail was lost. “According to our information, the missing person deliberately did not go to school on Tuesday – she probably told schoolmates that,” said a police spokesman.

Accordingly, the young person had no utensils for daily needs with her and probably did not plan to be away from home for any longer. It is therefore also possible that the girl wanted to return from Lenningen on the same day.

Investigators set up anonymous tip system

In the past few days, the police have been looking for the young people with sniffer dogs and a helicopter. The parents also addressed the public in an appeal on television. Police released mugshots showing the girl and her backpack. Wanted posters were also posted.

The investigators also set up a so-called anonymous tip system, with the help of which witnesses can report easily via the Internet. Above all, they are looking for people who rode the Teckbahn on the morning of January 24th, just like the missing person.
