“People worry far too much about their age,” Angélique Angarni-Filopon observes. While she embraces her role, she didn’t enter the pageant with the intention of becoming a spokesperson for a cause. Instead, she views this opportunity as a “second chance.” Angélique had previously attempted to compete for the title at just 20 years old, where she placed as first runner-up for Miss Martinique but was unable to advance to the national competition. “I didn’t try again the next year because I had just begun my career. It was challenging for me to pause my life for two months of preparation,” she recalls, reflecting on her youthful inexperience and the energy needed for such an endeavor.
As time went on, Angélique immersed herself in her career as a flight attendant, eventually surpassing the age limit to compete. The change in rules in 2022 reignited her hopes: “Two years ago, I thought, ‘Maybe it’s possible again!’ […] I don’t see it as a revenge; it’s truly a second chance. It was a pact with my friends that motivated me to try again. One January 1st, I told a friend, ‘This year, I’m signing up for Miss Martinique.’ She responded, ‘Are you ready to win Miss France?’ And here we are.” In discussing the topic of age, Angélique, who describes herself as “playful in everyday life,” prefers to keep the tone light. However, she acknowledges that the constant focus on age can be tiresome: “I believe we dwell too much on age, for both men and women. My message is simple: it’s never too late.
