Millions of viewers of “The Voice” to a million subscribers… The interview “The Milli” by Ogee

Ogee talks about his passion for song (and for TikTok) in “Le Milli” – 20 minutes

  • Each month, 20 minutes portrays an influencer or an influencer with a million subscribers on TikTok.
  • Océane, better known by her nickname Ogee, shares her passion for music with 1.5 million people on a daily basis.
  • From now on, she must combine her image on social networks with her career in song.

She went through all the small screens. In 2019, Océane made the four coaches of The Voice Kids on TF1. A first experience which literally propels her on the front of the stage. A year later, it explodes on TikTok under the nickname Ogee. During the first confinement, from the south of France, she connects cooking videos, humor, music and wins subscribers by the thousands. Six months later, she reached one million followers.

A success in French, a box in English

But Ogee is not an influencer like the others since she launched her singing career in parallel with her activity on social networks (and her final year classes). First in English, the young woman of seventeen ended up singing in French for her third song, The Favorite. And that’s what made the difference. “I expected a little more strength behind this song than the others because I was asked so much”, she confesses to 20 minutes. Obviously, Ogee is not lying because the numbers prove it: a million views for his clip in two weeks on YouTube, and streaming figures much better than those of his two previous titles.

“English was a way of locking myself up, of hiding a little bit because not everyone is going to understand what I’m going to say”, she says, while she judges The Favorite more suited to a French audience with its French variety side, “even if it’s still a little extrovert as a style of music. “

First steps in front of 3.5 million people

Styles of music, Ogee loves them all. From opera to Britney Spears, nothing escapes him. On the set of The Voice Kids, she decides to interpret Natural Woman Aretha Franklin. But before being able to sing in front of the four coaches, it was a long way. His first application was sent six years ago, without a response. Two years later, the production contacted her again after seeing her YouTube channel. Océane passes the casting but fails to qualify for the blind auditions. The following year was finally the right one.

“It was a very good decision to make The Voice because it could have given me a first experience in the TV side and the stage side, ”she reports. A year later, she exploded on social networks, not without seeing a small link. “It propelled me a bit, and at the same time I know that’s not what I really got through, it’s a mix of everything. It was beneficial to me and today it makes my music work so I don’t regret having made that decision at all. “

After the release of his first three tracks, Ogee continues to work on the preparation of an EP. The challenge: to be able to present a great variety of songs when they can perform on stage. Determined, the one who affirms that we do not “give her songs that I sing like that” wants to touch everything, from composition to mixing to writing.

“It’s an environment that I find very hypocritical”

Aided by his popularity on social media, Ogee considers TikTok to be a great launching pad for his songs. “We launched a challenge to The Favorite So obviously, it sends a lot of streams, it generates a lot of views. And there were little stories, little messes on the networks so it fueled the thing and it took on a considerable scale, ”she confides.

By deciding to join the French House project, a collective of tiktokers, Océane knew that she would have to deal with rumors and sometimes conflicting relationships with other influencers. “Networks are an environment that I find very hypocritical. You can be fooled many times by trusting too easily, by being too naive, ”she regrets.

Confronting this reality has not been easy, however. When she is only sixteen, Ogee must keep a cool head in the face of the “euphoria” that surrounds her, the attacks she receives and the hatred she does not expect. The Internet still remains for her a cocoon in which to take refuge while she is the victim of bullying in college and high school. “On the networks, there was this side where people did not know me,” she says. Even if they didn’t like me, they would have forged their opinion themselves, without people telling them “don’t calculate her, she’s a cassos”. It was a bit of a loophole. Today, she took her revenge.
