Military expert Carlo Masala has criticized Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s move to attack Russia’s nuclear infrastructure. “That’s out of place,” says the military expert.

Military expert Carlo Masala has criticized Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s move to attack Russia’s nuclear infrastructure. “That’s out of place,” said the politics professor from the Bundeswehr University in Munich on Friday in the stern podcast “Ukraine – the situation”. At the same time, Masala made it clear that Zelenskyy had not advocated a first nuclear strike against Russia. He was concerned with an attack on the infrastructure of Russian nuclear weapons in order to make their use impossible. But this, too, is unimaginable without the USA and NATO entering the war. “It wasn’t happy no matter how you shoot it,” Masala said. Russia can now use the statements to spread its claim that the West wants to destroy the country.

Battle between the Moscow factions not decided

Masala interpreted US President Joe Biden’s warnings of “Armageddon” as another attempt to prevent Russia from using a tactical nuclear weapon. The US government had previously warned of the catastrophic consequences of such a step. Biden’s comparison of the current threat with the 1962 Cuban Missile Crisis is obvious. “That was the last time that the use of nuclear weapons was threatened in such a clear manner,” said Masala.

In his estimation, it has not yet been decided whether the forces that are hoping for an escalation of the conflict will prevail in Moscow. He saw the promotion of Ramzan Kadyrov to colonel general as an attempt to involve and “domesticate” the Chechen president, who is considered particularly radical. Masala said, “I don’t think that’s an expression of him siding with the hardliners.”
