At a school in the US state of Michigan, a 15-year-old shot and killed three classmates and injured six other people. The suspect was arrested, the police said.

A shooter opened fire at a high school in Oxford, Michigan, and according to initial findings, killed at least three students. Six other people – including a teacher – were shot wounded in the incident on Tuesday, the Oakland sheriff’s office said.

The alleged perpetrator is a 15-year-old tenth grader from Oxford High School north of the metropolis of Detroit. He was arrested. The police had confiscated a handgun. The suspect asked for a lawyer and did not comment on any motive for the crime.

A police spokesman said it was “a very tragic situation”. The suspect was caught within five minutes of the first emergency call, which was received at 12:51 p.m. (local time / 6:51 p.m. CET). He did not offer any resistance. Fatal incidents continue to occur in the United States because shooters open fire in schools. Firearms are relatively easy to obtain in the United States.
