The author of “Gladiator” and the “Bohemian Rhapsody” producer are there: The biopic about Michael Jackson is taking shape.

Lionsgate will work with “Bohemian Rhapsody” producer Graham King (60) on the film “Michael”, a planned biopic about Michael Jackson (1958-2009). According to US media reports, the studio announced this on Monday.

Lionsgate secured the worldwide rights to the film, which will also be produced by Michael Jackson’s co-executors John Branca and John McClain. This gives the project access to Jackson’s music, reports “The Hollywood Reporter”. John Logan will contribute the screenplay for “Michael”. The author and Graham King previously collaborated on Martin Scorsese’s film Aviator. Logan also wrote the script for Ridley Scott’s Oscar-winning Gladiator.

“Profound Insights”

The biopic aims to provide an “in-depth portrait of the complicated man who became the King of Pop. It will bring Jackson’s most iconic performances to life and provide an in-depth look at the entertainer’s artistic process and personal life.”

The film chronicles Jackson’s beginnings with the band The Jackson Five and his rise to superstardom, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Jackson died in 2009 at the age of 50. He is one of the most successful artists of all time. He is said to have sold an estimated 400 million records. He had 13 number one singles on the Billboard charts. There are also numerous Grammys and Brit Awards as well as a Golden Globe.

Most recently, the HBO documentary “Leaving Neverland” from 2019 caused a stir. In it, two men accused Michael Jackson of allegedly sexually abusing them as children. Jackson’s environment rejected the allegations as “absolutely false”.
