Mercedes-Benz Hammer!: 400 million euros for Düsseldorf location | Regional

Dusseldorf – The future of the car takes place in Düsseldorf!

Mercedes-Benz wants to invest 400 million in the Düsseldorf location at Rather Strasse 51. The group wants to use this to upgrade the plant for its new e-Sprinter model and build its own production facility. The new model is expected to be launched in 2025.

Mercedes-Benz Vans boss Mathias Geisen announced the cooperation with electric start-up Rivian on Thursday. So you want to push the electrification of the transporter fleet. A new location in Central and Eastern Europe is planned for joint production.

According to Geisen, the production facilities in Düsseldorf and Ludwigsfelde (Brandenburg) are not at risk: “There will be no job cuts, we need every employee. At least until the end of the decade we are planning with the core workforce.” Around 6,600 people work in the Düsseldorf plant and 2,000 in Ludwigsfelde.

It was not until 2019 that the first Mercedes-Benz E-Sprinter rolled off the assembly line at the Rhenish location. The new model should then replace him. The transport vehicles with combustion engines will also continue to be produced there.

The new e-platform “VAN.EA” should then also be the basis for flatbed trucks, campers and other transport vehicles from the German car manufacturer with the star.
