Memorial plaques in Munich: Who is being commemorated? – Munich

A large number of memorial plaques in Munich commemorate artists, scientists and other personalities who lived or worked there. A book now supplements the scant information with details. An excellent idea, implemented with some shortcomings.

The old tree stands there, massive, almost majestic. Furrows run through its bark, here and there a hollow in the wood, and from the two main trunks, mighty branches stretch skyward, branching out into a huge tent of green foliage. It can no longer survive without human help. A few steel cables secure its skeleton, and a metal crutch supports an arm that reaches out far. This is the Röthlinde, probably the oldest tree in Munich. It has stood near the Nederling estate for around 300 years, perhaps a few decades more.
