Members of Ruangrupa teach at the Hamburger Kunsthochschule – Kultur

Two members of the Indonesian collective Ruangrupa, Reza Afisina and Iswanto Hartono, will take up a visiting professorship at the University of Fine Arts (HfbK) in Hamburg in the beginning of the academic year. The university announced this on Friday. Ruangrupa previously held the artistic direction of the Documenta in Kassel, which ended in September. In Hamburg, Afisina and Hartono will deal with topics such as the “importance of the collective for art production, the importance of networks or the testing of new art economies”.

The guest professorship is funded by the DAAD. The application for this was made by the HfbK in January. The President of the HfbK said, apparently with regard to the debate about anti-Semitic works at the Documenta: “Art colleges are places of social and artistic debates and above all of mutual learning from one another. It is important to endure contradictions and dissonances and to create space for differentiated statements create.”
