The photo with which the royal family congratulated Prince Harry on his 40th birthday caused a stir. So much so that Buckingham Palace has now reacted.
The Royal Family is in trouble again because of a picture. This time, the bone of contention is the snapshot that Buckingham Palace posted on Prince Harry’s 40th birthday on September 15th. The photo is from a trip to Dublin in 2018 and shows the younger son of King Charles III (75) laughing at a table. His wife Duchess Meghan (43) was sitting next to him at the time – and the suspicion quickly arose on social media that the palace had deliberately cut her out of the picture. Buckingham Palace denied this via a spokesperson to the British “Independent”.
Palace chose solo picture of Harry
In July 2018, Harry and Meghan made their first trip abroad as a married couple to the Irish capital, where they visited the Dogpatch Labs together. The photo now under discussion was taken there. The palace posted in his public congratulations a photo without Meghan and wrote: “We wish the Duke of Sussex a very happy 40th birthday today!” Harry’s brother Prince William (42) and his wife Kate (42) shared the post in their Instagram story.
However, different versions can be found in the photo agencies’ archives: There is a solo photo of Harry, but also photos of them together. A spokesperson for Buckingham Palace confirmed to the Independent that the image used had not been altered.
The fact that the Royal Family even sent public congratulations on the special anniversary is a small sensation. After all, the relationship with Harry and Meghan is considered to be very strained after they said goodbye to the royal family in 2020 and made several allegations afterwards.
Kate apologized for her Mother’s Day photo
It is not the first time that the royal family has caused a stir with a photo. Most recently, there was a lot of fuss about this year’s Mother’s Day photo of the Princess of Wales. The photo, which shows Kate with her three children, was withdrawn by the major news agencies because of manipulation. The princess even apologized on social media afterwards and admitted that as an amateur photographer she occasionally experiments with editing: “I would like to apologize for the confusion caused by the family photo we shared yesterday.”
