On the anniversary of the Russian invasion, there are increasing signals that political mediation between Russia and Ukraine and a credible person to prepare political talks are being considered. The announcement from Moscow that China’s head of state and party leader Xi Jinping was expected to visit Russia attracted particular attention. Brazil’s President Lula da Silva also offered to act as a mediator, although the advance was given few chances. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu brought himself into play. Western supporters of Ukraine dismiss the speculation, saying the time has not yet come for talks given the ongoing fighting.
