Nobody should know anything about the birth. In the fall of 2022, a mother killed her newborn. Now she has been sentenced to prison.

A 26-year-old has been sentenced to five years and six months in prison by the Schwerin Regional Court for throwing her newborn out of the third-floor window after birth and killing it. The presiding judge said on Friday that although the young mother was in an exceptional situation due to the birth, she was not significantly less able to control herself. He also ruled out an affect act. The woman was convicted of manslaughter. Her lawyer announced in the courtroom that he would appeal the verdict.

According to the judge, the German had first tried to flush the baby down the toilet. When that failed, she opened the bathroom window and threw the little girl out to make sure she didn’t survive. Her work as a nursing assistant and her independence were more important to her – nobody should know anything about the birth.

The presiding judge spoke of a personality disorder in the woman. She often lied to and manipulated her environment, including her partner. So she denied the pregnancy, the signs of which she had noticed very well, and justified her weight gain with taking medication.

She described the birth process on the evening of October 27, 2022 to her partner as stomach cramps and vehemently refused him to call an ambulance. The partner appeared in the process as a joint plaintiff.
