Mechanical engineering – More material for industry – Economy

The scarcity of materials in industry has decreased. In January, 48 percent of the companies surveyed by the Ifo Institute reported bottlenecks. In December it was almost 51 percent. But many companies could only slowly work off their high order backlog, said survey leader Klaus Wohlrabe. In mechanical engineering and the automotive industry, three out of four companies continued to report bottlenecks in raw materials and intermediate products. For food and beverage manufacturers, it is almost a third. The situation in the chemical industry is easing, only just under a quarter of companies are affected – the lowest value since the beginning of 2021. The paper industry is little affected, and in metal production and processing the value fell to 7 percent.
