To get straight to the point, this text will not be about harmful trans fats, acrylamide, processed meat and hidden sugars, greenwashing and the 99 other so-called consumer protection issues commonly associated with the McDonald’s brand. Not this time. This time it’s about the ten-meter-long window front on Rotkreuzplatz, behind which a McDonald’s branch was recently located, which disappeared almost overnight. After decades as a reliable island of light and a sea of fries fat that was fried at this address, it now just smells like vacancy.
