Mathijs Deen: “River without borders”. A river full of stories – culture

A few years ago the International Commission for the Hydrology of the Rhine area measured again very precisely. There was a lack of clarity as to how long this river actually is, which is not only one of the most important European waterways, but also a myth, especially in Germany, although it flows through a total of six countries. 1320 kilometers, as it has been in the encyclopedia for decades, that couldn’t be, a Cologne biology had found out. And the measurement actually showed: There are almost 100 kilometers less, namely exactly 1232.7 kilometers from the longest source branch of the Vorderrhein in the Swiss canton of Graubünden to the mouth at Hoek van Holland in the Netherlands.
