Due to a radio fault in the greater Frankfurt area, there are widespread train cancellations. According to the railway, trains that have Frankfurt as their destination or departure point are affected. Journeys through central Germany via Frankfurt are currently not possible.

Due to a failure of the train radio in the greater Frankfurt area, train traffic in Hesse is currently at a standstill. According to a railway spokesperson, all trains that are heading to Frankfurt or are due to depart from Frankfurt are affected.

“Due to a technical fault, rail traffic in central Germany is currently severely disrupted. Trains in the affected area are waiting out the fault at train stations. Our specialists are working hard to resolve the fault,” Deutsche Bahn wrote on its website.

According to initial information from a spokeswoman for Deutsche Bahn upon request from HRthere is a fault in the railway’s GSM-R radio system. If this system is not working, trains cannot travel. Frankfurt is one of the most important European hubs with around 1,200 local and long-distance trains in regular service every day.

Hundreds wait at Frankfurt train station

Tumultuous scenes took place at Frankfurt Central Station, reports hr correspondent Alex Jakubowski at dailynews24. People tried to get on the few trains that were still leaving. “There are still hundreds of people here who have no idea what is going to happen next,” said Jakubowski

In Hesse, long-distance and regional transport as well as S-Bahn trains are affected by the disruption. The Rhein-Main Transport Association (RMV) wrote on its website that there were “outages on all S-Bahn lines due to a major technical disruption” and that the S-Bahn lines were therefore no longer operating.

Cause of the problem still unclear

According to the current timetable information from Deutsche Bahn, the disruption is also affecting other lines that do not run through the greater Frankfurt area. For example, numerous regional trains in northern Hesse are significantly delayed, according to the information.

According to the railway, the reason behind the disruption is currently being investigated. It is therefore not yet possible to say how long the radio system will be out of order.
