Not a Ferrari, but the Maserati 3500 GT from 1957 has just been voted the winner in the “Italian Classics” category. The slim, two-door sports car won the readers’ choice of the specialist magazine engine classic nearly a third of the votes. Although the narrow speedster came from motorsport, it was more of a touring car than a racing car. The relaxed Gran Turismo with initially 220 hp quickly became the favorite toy of international celebrities: Tony Curtis, Stewart Granger, Rock Hudson, Prince Rainier III. from Monaco, Dean Martin and Luciano Pavarotti afforded this dream car of the 50s.
