Mark Zuckerberg and his wife already own a large ranch on the island of Kauai – now they have expanded again.

Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg (37) and his wife Priscilla Chan (36) have bought almost 44.5 hectares of land on the Hawaiian island of Kauai, on which a large part of a former sugar plantation reservoir is located. This is what the daily newspaper “The Honolulu Star-Advertiser” reports. The couple is said to have paid 17 million US dollars, the equivalent of around 15 million euros, last month.

Couple want to expand agriculture

Zuckerberg had previously bought around 526 hectares of land on the island. According to the Hawaiian newspaper, the new purchase follows on from the agricultural and nature reserve around Ko’olau Ranch, the Hawaiian home of Zuckerberg and his wife. There is also a dam in the area, which broke in 2006 after long rains. Seven people are said to have died.

According to a spokesman for the couple, the two want to meet all legal requirements and also take care of the safety around the reservoir. Zuckerberg and his wife want to cultivate the land, but also want to support the local flora and fauna.
