The call that every museum director dreads came in the early morning of November 25, 2019. The head of security woke Marion Ackermann from her sleep and said something had happened in the Green Vault. Her first thoughts were: There was a fire, “Fire and water are the greatest threat scenarios for a museum”. When the head of the Staatliche Kunstsammlungen Dresden (SKD) arrived in the treasury of Dresden Castle, she found out that everything was much worse: burglars had smashed a display case and taken jewel sets worth 113 million euros.
