After a medical emergency at the RuhrCongress in Bochum, the comedian and presenter Mario Barth canceled his show on Saturday evening (November 26th). There was only understanding for this in the audience, but many viewers are now upset about the replacement announcements. And the discussion about Barth’s comments on the rescue operation is heating up.

What happened on Saturday: “An approximately 50-year-old man who was sitting in the stalls suddenly became queasy, then he collapsed,” said Barth’s press spokesman Andreas Sucker on the phone on Sunday. Paramedics from the private medical service took care of the man and then called the emergency services of the Bochum fire brigade and the emergency doctor. This arranged for transport to the hospital.

The emergency caused the show to be interrupted for about 20 minutes, which was already in the second half. “The organizer and Mario Barth then jointly decided to cancel the show,” says Sucker. “The situation was too serious, it would simply not have been possible to continue unmolested.” It is not known how the man is doing at the moment.

Bochum fire brigade “irritated” by Barth’s comments on the rescue operation

According to the fire brigade, Mario Barth commented on what was happening from the stage during the deployment of the Bochum fire brigade’s rescue service. A spokesman for the Bochum fire brigade said: “We are extremely irritated by this.” It often happens that an artist interrupts or even cancels his show. However, such behavior on the part of an artist is “extremely unusual”, especially in times when there is a heated discussion about gazers and patient protection.

Violent discussions about Barth’s comments on the deployment of paramedics

What is certain is that the paramedics needed several minutes before they were on site. This is reported by several viewers in emails and social networks. They were in an adjoining room of the hall, but not in the hall itself. In this respect, numerous people from the audience show understanding for Barth’s comments, who asked the paramedics to walk faster. However, others, like the fire service, found these comments completely inappropriate. Reader Jens Heinemann wrote by e-mail: “They (the paramedics, note) could not explain themselves in the situation, justify themselves, had to do their job while Mr. Barth railed against them on stage and a hall celebrated it too. I found that shameful.”

Discussion of these incidents erupts on various networks, including various ones Facebook Pages. “Things happened there that were definitely not right on both sides, the organizer, Mario Barth and the medical service…. I was incredibly shocked from all sides,” writes a user on the Ruhr News Facebook page.

Bochum tickets for Mario Barth should now also be valid for Essen or Dortmund

Viewers reacted sympathetically to the demolition of the show. “There was a standing ovation for the decision,” said spokesman Andreas Sucker. The Bochum audience should also be compensated for the unusual part of the show. “We want to ensure that they have the opportunity to visit one of the shows in Dortmund or Essen with their tickets,” explains Sucker. Details are still to be clarified.

Mario Barth can be seen with his new program “Men are women, sometimes but also … maybe!” on Sunday, December 4th, in the Grugahalle in Essen and on Thursday, February 23rd, in the Westfalenhalle in Dortmund.

All ticket holders for the Barth show in Bochum will be contacted

In the social networks, however, many viewers are not happy with this solution, many comments – such as on Facebook – are critical. Because: On site, the organizers had initially promised that the show would be repeated directly in Bochum. “Mario Barth promised on stage that he would definitely come back to the RuhrCongress, even if he had to buy the hall,” reports Heiko Eckstein, a 53-year-old spectator. There was a standing ovation for that. This is also confirmed by other reports, such as that of Jens Heinemann. “If you pull something out in front of thousands of spectators, then it has to be right,” says Eckstein.

Press spokesman Andreas Sucker explained the situation as follows: “It’s not easy to find an alternative date in Bochum.” “In any case, all ticket holders will be written to next week,” said the spokesman.

“I hope that the visitors will also be provided with the appropriate maps,” Heiko Eckstein still sees things critically. He had first-class tickets in Bochum. “After looking at the places in Essen and Dortmund, there are no equivalent places available,” he also writes on Facebook.
