Many Berliners without heating and hot water – politics

Because of a technical malfunction in the Klingenberg thermal power station, many Berliners were without heating and hot water on Sunday evening. The Lichtenberg district office announced in the evening via the Warnapp Nina that there was a failure in buildings supplied with district heating in Friedrichsfelde, Karlshorst, Oberschöneweide and parts of Treptow-Köpenick.

The operator Vattenfall has already started to repair the damage, but it will probably take several hours. Property managers and caretakers couldn’t change the situation. The Berliner Zeitung Daily mirror quoted a Vattenfall spokesman, according to whose statement a power failure was the cause of the malfunction. The heat supply should run normally again by midnight.

Power failure causes problems at train stations

On Sunday afternoon, around 20,000 households were without electricity for a few minutes due to a fault in a substation in Berlin-Friedrichshain as well as in Prenzlauer Berg and Lichtenberg. The disruption at the high voltage level was resolved after three minutes, said a spokeswoman for the Berlin network operator Stromnetz Berlin. At the Ostbahnhof, Warschauer Straße, Ostkreuz and Lichtenberg train stations, the outage lasted a little longer. The train said that the train traffic was not affected. In some supermarkets and shops in the Ostbahnhof, however, the lights went out. Customers were asked to leave the shops. After less than an hour, the train gave the all-clear for the stations.
