Manchester City slaps Liverpool and doesn’t let Arsenal go

Arsenal still have room, but the Citizens showed on Saturday that they would not give up easily in the fight for the title. Manchester City won brilliantly at home against Liverpool (4-1), which is struggling to hang up the European wagon. The Reds however opened the scoring thanks to Salah but only believed it for ten minutes, before taking a sky blue tidal wave in the face.

But City, deprived of Erling Haaland, quickly regained their senses and on a very fine offensive from Kevin de Bruyne for Riyad Mahrez, passed by Ilkay Gündogan who shifted Jack Grealish, the latter’s low center was taken over by Alvarez at six meters (1-1, 27th).

De Bruyne and Grealish at the party

The Argentine then set up the second goal when he found Mahrez deep on his right wing and the Algerian’s pinpoint cross was pushed into the goal by De Bruyne, despite Alisson’s desperate attempt to intercept (2-1, 46th).

A little later, after a new series of passes worthy of a demonstration on a blackboard, a blocked shot from Alvarez returned to the feet of Gündogan who made the break with composure (3-1, 53rd).

Grealish’s 4th goal, after a kind of long one-two with De Bruyne, was once again a model of technical skill and intelligence in movement (4-1, 74th), which shows that the international break does not did not cause City to lose any of its dynamics.

For Liverpool, who will travel to Chelsea in the middle of the week before welcoming Arsenal next weekend, the European dream is hanging by a thread.
