Man sentenced to 20 years in prison for throwing ex-wife off dam

Already prosecuted for domestic violence, Ludovic Dimec, 49, was sentenced to twenty years in prison for having precipitated his ex-wife
from the top of a dam in 2018, by the Assize Court of Haute-Loire during the night from Friday to Saturday.

The sentence was accompanied by a safety period set at 13 years, the ban on holding a weapon for 15 years and the deprivation of civic, civil and family rights for 10 years. Parental authority over two of his children, minors, was withdrawn. The court was more lenient than the public prosecutor who had called for 30 years of criminal imprisonment, with a two-thirds security period.

“Bulky”

Ludovic Dimet “acted in full conscience, especially not out of love but to protect his personal interests. The certainty is that he had considered for 8 to 10 months the murder of his companion, “said Advocate General Rodolphe Prat in his indictment. “His wife is an object which does not have its own will: when it no longer works, when it no longer responds, it gets rid of it like a cumbersome”, estimated the magistrate, registering “in false against any justification for a murder of passion or impulsive gesture ”. For him, Ludovic Dimec, who “tried throughout the instruction to reduce his responsibility”, is “still in denial” and “has not told the whole truth”.

As a preamble, the representative of the prosecution wanted to “provide explanations”, without “seeking to protect the institution”, on the management of the case by the courts. “Far from being perfect”, it is to be placed according to him “in a global societal context”, which then seemed to “discover the number and extent of domestic homicides”. On November 9, 2018, Ludovic Dimec hit his ex-wife, 42, then rushed her, still alive, from the top of the Lavalette dam (Haute-Loire), barely out of the court where he had just learned that he would be tried in correctional for domestic violence. Separated for several months, the couple remained associated in a rodent farm.

“Duality” of children

Questioned one last time at the stand on the facts, Ludovic Dimec, average height, short beard, striped polo shirt, repeated that the mother of the family was “unconscious” when, “panicked”, he had thrown his body, telling her that ‘ he loved her. “How can you love someone and tip them over a dam? », Asked the president Diane Amacker. “I don’t know… (…) I am in a downward spiral where I want to hide what I have done,” replied the accused, once again asking “forgiveness” from his children. “You must hear that he is also hurting,” defended his lawyer, Florence Vincent, looking back on his childhood with a depressed mother. “When pronouncing a sentence, one must not take into account the nature of the crime but of the one who committed it”, added Me André Buffard for the defense.

Karine Collomb, lawyer for the couple’s three children aged 13, 17 and 19, spoke of “the strange place that is theirs”, using the words of the youngest, the day before, at the bar. Deprived of a mother “who will no longer give them hugs, no more kisses”, they “love their father but they hate their mother’s murderer, except that it is the same person”: “how to have a daily life in this duality? She asked.

Earlier in the day, experts had described the “narcissistic” and “egocentric” personality of the convict, weakened by “severe depressive episodes” and “harmful use of alcohol”. They ruled out any abolition and any alteration of discernment during the events. Michel Gironde, psychologist, assured to have “perceived nothing” in him “which could indicate a hint of guilt”.
