Man died after hitting fallen tree on road

A 62-year-old man died on Monday morning around 7:15 a.m. in the town of Saint-Mariens as a result of storm Gérard which hit all of western France, say the Gironde firefighters.

A tree has indeed fallen on the public road, at the level of avenue Marc Doulus in this town located north of Bordeaux, due to bad weather. A car driven by the 60-year-old hit the tree, and the driver died. Police and firefighters responded to the scene.

SNCF traffic disrupted in the region

Strong gusts of wind hit all of western France, and in particular the Gironde coast, from Sunday night to Monday. According to Enedis, some 2,500 people were without electricity, including 1,200 in Gironde, in part of the territory of New Aquitaine.

SNCF also indicates that TER traffic on the La Rochelle-Poitiers line is interrupted this Monday morning due to a signaling failure due to a tree that fell on the power cables. Train cancellations and delays are to be expected until midday.
