nResearch published in the journal Infectious Diseases BMC Quoted by the prestigious journal Galileo, three researchers from Tokyo Medical University, Japan, presented the case of a 77-year-old man who was hospitalized with Covid-19. After 21 days, the person recovered from the respiratory illness but continued to experience symptoms of anxiety and insomnia.
However, a few weeks after discharge from the hospital, the elderly person begins to show symptoms of internal discomfort in the anus, about four inches from the perineal area. This can lead to a man’s urge to move around and feel worse when he is sitting and at night.
The man then underwent several tests such as a colonoscopy and neuroanalysis that did not identify a specific problem.

So, according to Galileo’s reports, doctors began to view restless anal syndrome – or Willis Ekbom’s disease – as a type of restless legs syndrome.
According to doctors, the individual’s symptoms are adapted to the usual manifestations of the lower extremity disease, namely a sudden urge to move, which is aggravated at rest and at night, and, on the other hand, improves with exercise.
To date, no cause for Willis Ekbom disease is known.
A study published in PLOS One in 2017 found that the condition is often linked to other illnesses such as depression, anxiety, cognitive decline, chronic pain, and cardiovascular disease.
It is also estimated to affect between 3.9% and 14.3% of the total population.
Japanese doctors say it is unknown how the strange syndrome can be linked to Covid-19 and that there are no previous studies linking the condition in the anus to infection with the new coronavirus.
