Luge World Championships in Oberhof: German sprint doubles go to gold

The sprints in the doubles were in German hands at the World Championships in Oberhof. There was gold for the women, the men ensured a double success.

The duo prevailed in the sprint competition on Friday, just ahead of teammates Tobias Arlt and Tobias Wendl. Wendl/Arlt were 0.036 seconds behind and were happy about silver. Austria’s Yannick Müller and Armin Frauscher finished third, 0.069 seconds back.

The third German duo, consisting of Hannes Orlamünder and Paul Gubitz, took sixth place in the final ranking. Their deficit was a little more than two hundredths. For Eggert/Benecken it was the second gold medal in the sprint competition after 2019 in Winterberg. In 2021 they won bronze at the last World Cup in Königssee.

Women also win gold

Afterwards, the German doubles women could also celebrate: Jessica Degenhardt and Cheyenne Rosenthal won the sprint ahead of the Austrians Selina Egle and Lara Michaela Kipp, who were only 16 hundredths behind. Andrea Vötter and Marion Oberhofer from Italy finished 0.023 seconds behind in bronze.

The other German duos finished tenth and eleventh. Annika Krause and Magdalena Matschina finished tenth with 0.499 seconds. Directly behind them were Elisa-Marie Storch and Elia Reitmeier.
