Due to problems with its IT system, Lufthansa is having problems with boarding and check-in worldwide. Numerous planes are idle.

Queues at the airport, frustrated passengers and a lot of uncertainty: Since Wednesday morning, a failure at Lufthansa has been causing chaos at airports worldwide. IT problems are to blame, Lufthansa confirmed to several media. It is not yet known what the exact scope of the failures is, when they will be fixed and what the cause is. However, one thing is clear: many flights are cancelled.

According to reports, all domestic flights for today have been canceled, and local passengers report that they have been advised to switch to the train. International flights are shown as delayed. A crisis team was set up at the Lufthansa headquarters in Frankfurt to clarify the problem and the company’s further course of action. They are working intensively on a solution, a spokeswoman told “Radio FFH”.

frustration in the waiting room

The extent of the outage is not yet fully clear. Check-in, boarding and booking of the largest German airline are apparently affected. In Frankfurt and Munich there is a real traffic jam of planes. As a result, air traffic control in Frankfurt is said to have closed the airport for landings. It is the largest international hub in Germany.

The failure causes frustration among the passengers. There are tons of complaints, photos of full waiting rooms and anger about the failures on social media. “Absolutely horrible service at Lufthansa in Frankfurt,” complains an English-speaking Twitter user. “An IT failure is not a one-off situation. But nobody here can offer passengers any advice on what to do now.”
