Lucid Gravity: The electric SUV with “more range than any other electric vehicle”

With the Lucid Gravity, the US car brand is targeting the market for all-electric SUVs – and wants to be at the forefront. The brand’s first SUV, apart from the Lucid Air sedan, is said to go further on a single charge “than any other electric vehicle”. The company released the first details and images on Tuesday.

Lucid did not announce how large the range of the Gravity should be. The Air, which is the brand’s first and so far only vehicle, is said to have a range of an estimated 830 kilometers.

“Gravity builds on everything we’ve accomplished to date and continues to advance our in-house technology to create a luxury performance SUV that’s second to none,” said Peter Rawlinson, CEO and CTO of Lucid Group in a press release . “Just as Lucid Air redefined the sedan category, Gravity will also influence the world of luxury SUVs and set new standards in all areas.”

According to the manufacturer, the Gravity has the performance of a supercar and at the same time combines the space of a spacious vehicle with up to three rows of seats. Up to seven passengers can ride in the SUV. The new model should be able to “satisfy almost every lifestyle and every need”. Finally, the large panoramic glass roof and a high-resolution display in the interior should also ensure a high level of comfort.

SUV builds on Lucid Air

Derek Jenkins, Senior Vice President, Design, Lucid Group promises: “We have not missed an opportunity to build on what we have learned with the Lucid Air to create something that breaks the continuum of vehicle classes.”

Lucid is currently still working on the Gravity’s vehicle design and specifications. From the beginning of 2023, the e-model should then be reservable before, according to the manufacturer, it will be on the market in 2024. It is not yet known how much the SUV will cost its buyers.

Lucid Air before market launch in Germany

The Lucid Air has been on the market in the USA since autumn 2021 and should have its market launch in Germany before the end of the year. The sedan is said to be the most aerodynamic production vehicle in the world, with a drag coefficient of 0.197. Parallel to the Gravity, Lucid announced information about the two new variants Air Touring and Air Pure.

The Air Touring is the more powerful variant of the two. With 620 hp, the sedan should be able to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.4 seconds. In addition, it has an estimated range of around 680 kilometers. The first Air Touring was handed over to a customer on Tuesday.

The Air Pure is also scheduled to be launched later this year. According to the manufacturer, the all-wheel drive model needs 0.4 seconds longer than the Touring to accelerate to 100 km/h from a standing start. The maximum range is given as 659 kilometers. A rear-wheel drive version is scheduled for release in 2023.

Additionally, Lucid is currently developing the Air Sapphire, “the world’s first electric luxury supersport sedan.” The car should be able to reach the 100 km/h mark in 1.89 seconds. According to Lucid, the top speed is 330 km/h.
