Lucid dreams: How we direct in dreams

Fly, flee, train: lucid dreamers can direct their dreams themselves. This is not only fun, but can also help to overcome trauma and increase physical performance.

At the age of 12 or 13, Salma Parra had a drastic experience at night: “I dreamed that I should go shopping with my aunt. But I didn’t want to and then just ran away. I thought, wow, that’s great, me can control everything in a dream like in real life – coloring a house, flying through the forest, turning invisible. It felt good.”

The 23-year-old communication design student at the University of Dortmund is a lucid dreamer, she has lucid dreams (from the Latin lucidus: bright, clear). This means she knows when she is dreaming and can then influence her dream.
