Lower Franconia: ICE captures route worker and fatally injures him – Bavaria

An ICE hit a route worker near Kitzingen in Lower Franconia and fatally injured him. According to current findings from the Würzburg Federal Police Inspectorate, the approximately 100 people on the train that was traveling from Munich towards Hamburg at night were not injured.

It was initially unclear why the 52-year-old, who was deployed as a security guard at the construction site, was caught by ICE 1080. The route was clear again in the morning, but will be temporarily closed during the day due to investigations.

The accident occurred around 1:22 a.m. in the Sickershausen district of Kitzingen. The route was then closed until shortly before 5 a.m. After the collision, the ICE was taken to Würzburg Central Station, where it will now be examined. The passengers could have stayed on the train until Würzburg and then changed to other trains, said a spokesman for the Federal Police Inspectorate.
