Lowbduget Vanlife – Swede buys and renovates caravans for a total of 780 euros

Just get out – it’s not that easy at all. In the times of the corona pandemic, the prices for campers and mobile homes have exploded. Old and ugly caravans are still cheap. Caravans are the epitome of liability and that’s how they are equipped. But you don’t have to be put off by the look. The Swede Cajsa Olsson proves it. The 55-year-old bought an old caravan from the 80s and completely refurbished it for less than 300 euros.

Olsson was clever. Her Adria 305 looked bad inside, but was technically in good shape, so she only had to change the decor. The whole project only took a month and a half. In total she only invested 3000 Swedish crowns in the renovation. She documented the transformation process on Instagram and in an upcycling group. She said to the “Sun”: “I was inspired by Pinterest and Instagram, for example, and put together my own style with things that I love, such as peace signs, mandalas, wooden materials, etc.”.

Base of the car was fine

She is not a craftsman, but also not untalented: “I’ve always been interested in painting, carpentry and sewing … that’s how I’ve learned a little over the years. My father was a carpenter and my partner is a painter, so have she also taught me some skills. “

The existing furniture stayed inside. Olsson first painted the inside of the car completely white to dispel the dreary look. To separate the kitchen area, she painted the kitchen block in dark gray and replaced the old floor with vinyl. She reused a lot of things. “For example, the sink is an old kitchen table, I built the small table myself from recycled boards and the awning are my old kitchen curtains.”

Each area of the caravan is separated with a linen curtain. This divides the space and gives the interior more privacy. She created beds out of the two seating areas and furnished them with fresh white bed linen, patterned throws with tassels and lots of pillows and blankets that have a very homely character. The interior has been spiced up with accessories such as braided rope holders, wooden accessories and houseplants.

And best of all: the car is roadworthy and can be easily attached to the trailer coupling. She was able to buy the old Adria 305 cheaply for 450 euros. The mobile mini-house cost a total of only 750 euros or 7800 Swedish kronor.
