Coach Ronald Koeman is heavily criticized in Barcelona. Louis van Gaal now backs him and shoots at Barca.

The Dutch national coach Louis van Gaal has sharply criticized FC Barcelona’s dealings with his compatriots Ronald Koeman and Frenkie de Jong. The ex-Bayern coach accused the Catalans of blaming the foreigners of the team for their misery.

“History repeats itself, it’s typical for Barcelona. If everything is going well and you are doing your part, as Frenkie de Jong is doing, then there is no need to worry,” Van Gaal said at the Dutch press conference ahead of the game against Gibraltar (Monday, 8.45 p.m. on DAZN).

“This is how things are going at Barcelona”: Louis van Gaal gives Koeman some advice

He said: “When things don’t go so well, Barcelona tend to blame the team’s foreigners. In that case, it’s the coach.” He suggested Barca coach Koeman: “I would advise him not to pay too much attention to it and read. This is the way things are going at Barcelona.”

Koeman returned to Barcelona in summer 2020 and has since been in a sporting crisis due to massive financial problems. Most recently, after the Dutchman was sacked, the voices were getting louder, but Barca president Joan Laporta expressed his confidence in Koeman before the international break.
