Long prison sentence after being forced to fatally jump into the Main – Bavaria

A man in Aschaffenburg has been sentenced to 13 years in prison because he is said to have caused an acquaintance to make a fatal jump into the Main out of revenge. The regional court found the accused guilty on Thursday of dangerous bodily harm in most cases with manslaughter as an indirect perpetrator, said a court spokeswoman. The court also ordered the man to be placed in a rehabilitation center. The verdict is not yet legally binding.

The public prosecutor’s office and the joint prosecutor had previously demanded life imprisonment for murder and a determination of a particular degree of guilt. The defense had requested a prison sentence of one and a half years for dangerous bodily harm.

According to the indictment, the 35-year-old wanted to give the victim a beating on the night of the crime in February near Wörth am Main (Miltenberg district). To do this, he first abused the 30-year-old and sent him into the water and then forced him to walk to a pedestrian and railway bridge more than a kilometer away. After jumping off the bridge, the desperate victim, physically exhausted from beatings and the winter cold, had no chance and died.

The man and the victim had known each other for years and both were in prison together at times. There the victim is said to have complained to a station official about the violent defendant.
