A 15-year-old who was sentenced to eight and a half years in youth custody for the murder of a classmate in Lohr am Main has withdrawn his appeal. He informed the court of this at the request of his client and his legal guardian, the youth’s lawyer told dpa. Several media outlets had previously reported this.
In the proceedings before a youth chamber of the Würzburg regional court, the defense attorney had previously pleaded for manslaughter and a youth sentence of six years. The sentence range of the verdict was realistic even in the case of a conviction for manslaughter, said the defense attorney when withdrawing the appeal.
His client now wants to find closure and move towards resocialization. This is more important to the young man than continuing to contest the verdict. The public prosecutor’s office did not appeal against the verdict of August 5.
The defendant had confessed in the non-public trial that last September, when he was 14, he had shot a classmate of the same age on school grounds in Lohr am Main in Lower Franconia. However, he said the shot was not intentional.
