Update, 6 a.m. – RKI reports almost 134,000 new corona cases

The Robert Koch Institute (RKI) has the nationwide seven-day incidence as of Wednesday morning was 646.3. This is evident from numbers that reflect the status of the RKI dashboard at 5 a.m. The day before, the value of new infections per 100,000 inhabitants and week was 635.8 (previous week: 488.7; Previous month: 196.2). However, the incidence provides not a complete picture of the infection situation. Experts have been assuming for some time that there will be a large number of cases not recorded by the RKI – mainly because not all infected people have a PCR test done. Only positive PCR tests count in the statistics. In addition, late registrations or transmission problems can lead to a distortion of individual daily values.

The health authorities in Germany reported to the RKI most recently 133,950 new corona infections (Previous week: 119,232) and 175 deaths (Previous week: 104) in one day. Here, too, comparisons of the data are only possible to a limited extent due to the test behavior, late registrations or transmission problems. In general, the number of registered new infections and deaths varies significantly from weekday to weekday, since many federal states do not transmit them to the RKI, especially at weekends, and report their cases later in the week.

The RKI counted Since the beginning of the pandemic, 28,048,190 infections with Sars-CoV-2 have been detected in Germany. The actual total number is likely to be significantly higher, as many infections go undetected.

Tuesday, June 28:

Update, 1:52 p.m. – Bavaria abolishes the FFP2 mask requirement on buses and trains

Despite the rising corona numbers canceled at the beginning of July in Bavaria’s buses and trains in local transport the obligation to wear an FFP2 mask. The cabinet decided on Tuesday (January 28) in Munich that the Corona Ordinance extended by a further four weeks is, however, sufficient to fulfill the mask requirement a medical mask. The current regulation still applies until July 2nd. It can be assumed that the new regulation will then immediately after will apply.

“After more than two years of the corona pandemic, it is important that we keep examining our regulations and adapting them to the new circumstances,” said Health Minister Klaus Holetschek (CSU) of the German Press Agency in Munich. In the hot summer months like at the moment and under the current conditions, it is proportionate to adapt the mask regulations so that everyone can decide for themselveswhether he wanted to wear an FFP2 mask or a medical mask.

“It is very important: The Mask requirement in public transport remains! We still need protective measures in view of the current infection situation. We don’t go through the summer lightly,” emphasized Holetschek. However, it is now up to the citizens to take responsibility for choosing an FFP2 mask or the surgical mask. The “FFP2 mask has a higher protective effect. But it is also crucial for protection that the mask is worn correctly at all times and that it is the right size and fit.”

Next: “We continue to recommend using FFP2 masks wherever many people come together in a small space. But medical masks also offer protection when worn correctly at all times, and citizens are free to use them as well.”
