Bomb in Essen: We know that so far

12:54 p.m.: Due to the pending bomb disposal, the Kronenberg Center will be closed today from 2.30 p.m.

12:45 p.m.: In the inner circle, 440 residents are affected and have to be evacuated. All facilities within a radius of 250 meters must also be cleared. This includes two day-care centers, the Bertha-Krupp-Realschule, the Friedrichbad, the Haedenkampstrasse gym and the Markushaus. In the outer circle, over 3,000 people are affected. The Kronenberg Center, several day care centers and schools, the vocational college, the Essen-West train station and several commercial properties are located there. All facilities are currently being informed by telephone about the upcoming defusing.

12:37 p.m.: The citizen phone is switched on and accepts inquiries about the defusing. The number is 0201 / 123-8888.

12:32 p.m.: The dud was found on the sports field. An artificial turf field is to be built there, but the bomb surfaced during preparations.

12:14 p.m.: Among other things, the entire railway line around Essen West is affected. Among other things, the shopping center Kronenbergcenter is in the outer circle.

12:09 p.m.: The inner circle, which must be completely evacuated, is 250 meters, the outer circle is 500 meters. In this area you should stay in parts of the building facing away from the bomb during the defusing.

Another dud from World War II has been found in Essen. It’s an American five hundredweight bomb. It was found during exploratory work at Haedenkampstraße 72 (sports field) in Altendorf and still has to be defused today.
