LIVE – Juventus-PSG, D-1: “I dream of the World Cup”, says Sergio Ramos

Ramos on Champions League level

“The Champions League is played on small details. (…) The luck factor, the history factor can come into play. Juventus is always a team that counts in the Champions League. But if it was just a story of figures, everyone would have a Champions League at home”.

The press conference ends with this response.

Ramos on his ‘very good’ relationship with Marquinhos

“My relationship with Marquinhos is very good. Since I arrived, the relationship with all my team-mates has been wonderful. Marquinhos is a top player, he is a key player for everyone. (…) When there are difficult times, we try to deal with problems in the dressing room. I do it in a natural way, it’s not calculated. Everyone respects the captain and I’m happy to help Marquinhos”.

Ramos on Messi and the World Cup: ‘He is very focused’

“Messi is always at the top level. He continues to be one of the most decisive players in the world. It’s a privilege to have him in our team. (…) I see him very focused, like last year Maybe he has the World Cup in the back of his mind, but he’s focused on being good on the pitch.”

Ramos on red cards in France: ‘No problem’

“For red cards, there is no problem. We learn, we make mistakes”.

Ramos on his injuries: ‘Last year is forgotten, I’m totally fit’

“Last year was difficult. I was injured, I had to adapt after spending most of my career at Real. At no time did I think it was the end of my career. It was a challenge. (…) Last year is forgotten. There have been changes and I’m happy, I’m totally adapted to Paris and I’m hungry for titles. If I think it’s is over, I will stay at home to take care of my children. But I think I can last a few more years at the best level in football”.

Ramos on his contract: ‘We’ll see’

“For the extension? I’m only thinking of playing at my best level. We’ll see. I’m happy that PSG made an effort to sign me”.

Ramos on the defensive system: ‘I prefer the four-man line’

“Playing with a three or four-man defense depends on the coach. He is the one who analyzes the opponents. The big teams have this flexibility. I personally prefer the four-man line. You have a little more balance, especially in the middle when you need possession. But with three, there is more security”.

Ramos describes his ‘excellent’ relationship with Messi

“It’s something that arouses a lot of curiosity. But we have the same objective: to win with PSG. We want to make the team better, with our experience and good performances. My relationship with Messi is excellent. We can see on the field. There is great respect between the players and a good state of mind”.

Ramos on his chances of playing the World Cup with Spain

“Everyone knows what it means to me to defend the colors of my country. After a difficult season, I feel good again, I’m playing again and I’m available. I still hope to return to the selection and I dream of the World Cup. But we have to wait, continue to play at the best level to convince the coach. I hope I will have the chance to play in another World Cup”.

Galtier on the reasons for the elimination of Juve

“Juventus lacked success and never had their typical team available. When you have world-class players, Pogba or Chiesa who are absent, obviously you are quickly weakened, diminished. Even with temperament and desire, you need players of experience and international class. Juve have been deprived of their best players”.

Galtier on the imbalance of his system

“Living in imbalance? No. But we have profiles and a way of playing which means that there will be imbalance at some point. On the reaction to the loss, of course I talked about it. There is sometimes the desire to be there, but without intensity, with some restraints in particular on our last league match, on the situations conceded, we were very close to the ball and the opponent without winning the duel. through a greater commitment and perhaps with a little more skill, with tactical mistakes to stop transitions which can be dangerous”.

Galtier on the number of goals conceded from set pieces

“I was very annoyed after the last two games. Positioning is not good, not respected. It’s a question of commitment, sometimes of sacrifice. I talked about it this morning with my players. We has more than spoken, we have worked on it. Apart from the value of each player on his ability to win aerial duels, we lose a lot of second balls in the box on set pieces. It’s a lack of concentration, a lack of investment. We have to remedy that. Juventus scored a lot of goals from set pieces. We will have to be very vigilant”.

Galtier: “Win because there is an important objective”

“There is no desire to say that we have to beat Juve because that has never been the case historically. We have the ambition to play to win because there is a very important: first place. Juventus being eliminated is unfortunate for them, but we are focused on what we have to do”.

Galtier on the need to win to finish top of the group

“It’s much nicer to qualify before the last game. It was a mandatory objective, at Paris Saint-Germain. There is this objective of finishing first. We know the consequences in the draws when you finish second. We have this sporting ambition. We have spoken about it with the players, we are focused. People may think that it will be a less tight match. No, it will not be the case. We have a duty to finish first to wait for a draw more lenient. We know that we will have Juve, eliminated but who will do everything to qualify for the Europa League. And it is a club with an incredible history with a lot of pride and pride”.

Galtier on the absence of Kimpembe: “Nothing alarming”

“Presnel had returned to the group and was able to participate in the last Champions League match. Everything was fine, but today we walked on his tendon which was already painful. In the last session, the pain was too much for him to “he can take part in the match. There is nothing alarming compared to the matches that we still have to play”.

Galtier to an Italian journalist on the hope of winning the C1

“There is a lot of expectation around Paris Saint-Germain, in France and in Europe. Which is normal, when you see how our squad is made up. We have world-class players, with a lot of experience, a lot of experience. It’s a trophy that is very difficult to win. Sometimes matches are irrational with reversals of the situation. PSG are very close to winning a trophy. We hope it will be this year, but it happened not played much a few seasons ago. The scenario was incredible last season. There is a lot of hope, a lot of expectation, but our club is doing everything possible to win this magnificent trophy one day.

See you at 7:30 p.m. for the press conference

Christophe Galtier will be accompanied by Sergio Ramos at a press conference.

Vlahovic, Di Maria, Paredes… Juventus decimated against Paris

Massimiliano Allegri will have to rethink his plans. The Juventus coach will not be able to rely on a full squad against PSG tomorrow night, on the last day of the group stage of the Champions League. Dusan Vlahovic, Angel Di Maria, Leandro Paredes and Weston McKennie are forfeited for this reunion with the Parisians. Absences which are added to that of Paul Pogba, still in the infirmary since his knee operation during the summer.

No worries for Kimpembe, package against Juventus

The central defender of Paris Saint-Germain has given up the trip to Turin (Wednesday at 9 p.m.), in the Champions League, due to a blow received in training, nothing serious a priori. This discomfort in the Achilles tendon should not keep him away from the field for very long, he who had just returned from injury. Depending on the medical examinations and his feelings, the defender could resume collective training at the end of the week.

“If he had decided to have surgery …”, Allegri not tender with Paul Pogba

Present at a press conference on the eve of the reception of PSG, Massimiliano Allegri mentioned the case of Paul Pogba, who must withdraw from the World Cup and who has not yet played an official match this season with the Bianconeri.

“I haven’t spoken to Paul (Pogba) yet. There’s no point repeating what’s already been said. Once he made the decision not to have surgery, right after his injury (early August), it is normal that the hope of seeing Paul play with Juventus and at the World Cup was reduced to a minimum. It is normal that he is disappointed to miss the World Cup, not to be able to play with Juventus. And, Obviously, we are penalized because we have never had such a player available.”

Sergio Ramos at a press conference with Christophe Galtier from 7:30 p.m.

This may be a first indication of the choice of the French technician in central defense, while Presnel Kimpembe, Marquinhos and therefore Sergio Ramos are all three available for the trip to Turin. Ramos has appeared in all matches this season apart from the two for which he was suspended. The move to a four-man defense did not pose management problems for Galtier as long as Kimpembe was injured, but the most difficult choices will be imposed on the coach now, and possibly tomorrow if Galtier maintains his 4-3-1- 2.
