In an open letter, the international writers’ association PEN calls for an end to the bloodshed in Ukraine. “We are united in supporting writers, journalists, artists and all people in Ukraine who are going through their darkest hours. We stand by their side and feel their pain,” says the letter, which according to the German PEN center is supported by more than 1000 authors worldwide. “Peace must prevail”, the urgent appeal ends. Among others, Paul Auster, Svetlana Alexievich, Can Dündar, Siri Hustvedt, Margaret Atwood, Salman Rushdie and Olga Tokarczuk signed it. PEN stands for Poets, Essayists, Novelists.
