His latest book is about a love that has lasted for decades. Now bestselling author Martin Suter loses his wife after a similarly long relationship.

The wife of the Swiss bestselling author Martin Suter (75), Margrith Nay Suter, has died. This was announced by Suter’s publisher Diogenes on Tuesday in Zurich, without giving any further details.

Suter had already canceled his planned reading tour in connection with his book “Melody”, which was published in March, on Monday. The reading tour through Germany and Switzerland was to begin on May 10 in Hamburg and also lead to Stuttgart, Munich, Berlin and Cologne, among other places.

45 years together

Suter had been with the fashion designer for around 45 years. He always referred to his wife as his great love. When asked about the secret of a long, successful relationship, he told the German Press Agency shortly before his 75th birthday at the end of February: “I’m still figuring that out. Life is actually too short to really get to know each other, including yourself self.” His book “Melody”, which is on the “Spiegel” bestseller list, is about a love that lasted for decades.

The two met in the late 1970s, traveled half the world together and lived in different countries, including Guatemala. There they adopted two small children in 2007. The daughter is in her teens. The son died in a domestic accident in 2009. He choked to death in Zurich at the age of three when a bite got stuck in his windpipe. Suter last lived with his family in Zurich and temporarily in Morocco.
