Lionel Messi has decided to counterattack. The Argentine footballer has filed a complaint against members of the group “Futuro Vegetal” and is demanding 50,000 euros in compensation, according to So Foot this Sunday.
The activists vandalized his villa in Ibiza, Spain, in early August. Three people threw black and red paint on the walls of his luxurious home. The group then posted a video of their action on social media, explaining their motivation.
“The responsibility of the rich in the climate crisis”
He said he wanted to draw attention to “the responsibility of the rich in the climate crisis” by targeting Lionel Messi’s “illegal” villa. This house, bought by the football star for 11 million euros in 2022, has reportedly not yet received a certificate of habitability because several rooms were built without a permit.
“It’s a water-based painting”
Upon learning of the complaint and the amount of compensation requested by Lionel Messi, the spokesperson for the group “Futuro Vegetal” reacted during a press briefing. “It is a water-based paint, so it is washable with a garden hose, at most you will have to scrub a little. But in the worst case, even if you had to repaint the facade, it would not cost 50,000 euros,” said Bilbo Bassaterra.
The group took advantage of this speech to once again denounce Lionel Messi’s lack of a building permit. “This is another example that shows that the law does not work the same way for everyone,” commented Bilbo Bassaterra.
