Last weekend, Lil Nas X, author of global success Old town road, unveiled the spectacular music video of Montero (Call Me by Your Name). Mixing biblical and mythological references in a queer universe and fantasy, the rapper is sometimes angel or demon, and affirms his homosexuality.

If the video has been praised by many Internet users and already peaks at more than 30 million views on YouTube, it was not to everyone’s taste, reports several media including BFMTV. Lil Nas X was thus accused by the British rapper Mint Chip of corrupting the youth, an attack to which the artist quickly responded.

A letter addressed to himself

“The system targets children. Lil Nas X fans are mostly children. They did the same with Miley Cyrus after Hannah montana Mint Chip wrote on
Twitter. “There is no system. I made this decision to create this clip, I’m an adult. I’m not going to spend my career trying to please children. It’s your job, ”Lil Nas X replied.

In a tweet published the day of the release of the clip, the rapper had published a very personal message addressed to the young Montero, who is none other than his real first name. “I wrote a song with our name in it. This concerns a guy I met last summer. I know we promised ourselves that we would never come out publicly, never be “that” kind of gay person, we promised ourselves we would die with this secret, but it will open doors for a lot of people. ‘other queer people, and allow them to live quite simply,’ he wrote in particular.
