In what she defines as neither “an essay nor a manifesto”, “neither a lesson in feminism nor a social project”, the director and author explains why she has been on a sex strike for four years. Ovidie explains that he has nothing “against men” but just does not “want to sleep with them anymore”.
After Sophie Fontanel who in Desire, evoked his sexual break, Ovidie speaks here of his disgust for heterosexual sexuality “at the service of men and their pleasure”. “I thought back, she writes, to these innumerable reports to which I had forced myself to consent so as not to offend fragile egos. Ovidie does not give up, but sketches here, like Mona Chollet before her in reinvent love, another way of conceiving sex, of starting to make love again without heteronormativity and a relationship of domination. A (utopian) sexuality that would be lived in sharing and equality.
