Ligue 1, 25th day – Bordeaux and Monaco (1-1) leave in a draw, Tchouaméni expelled

Mixed first for David Guion’s new Bordeaux. The Girondins had to settle for a draw against Monaco on Sunday, during the 25th day of Ligue 1 (1-1). At first happy, the Bordelais opened the scoring nicely by Rémi Oudin (22nd) then benefited from the expulsion of Monegasque Aurélien Tchouaméni (34th) but suffered on recovery and Marcelo scored against his camp to offer the equalizer visitors (67th). They remain last in the standings with 21 points like Troyes, 17th, while Monaco is in 6th place.

Full of desire like the spectators present in large numbers at the Matmut Atlantique, the Girondins first united against Monegasques who were more technically comfortable. The aggressiveness of the premises was rewarded and they even benefited from a good dose of success because if Anel Ahmedhozic slipped in front of his surface and allowed Vanderson to strike between the legs of Gaëtan Poussin, the goalkeeper still managed to deflect for a corner (15th).

Opposite, Monaco, which relied on its technical mastery, did the opposite and forgot to defend well. Yacine Adli was able to work quietly on the left of the truth zone before looking for Oudin who sent a nice recovery into the back of the net following a failed intervention by Caio Henrique (1-0, 22nd). ASM quickly moved forward but Wissam Ben Yedder, not on a great day, missed the target on his attempt at the penalty spot (26th).

Tchouameni severely expelled

The meeting changed when Tchouaméni, clearly lonely in recovery, took a second severe yellow card for a tackle deemed dangerous on Amadou Onana when he had first taken the ball (34th). Philippe Clement replaced Kevin Volland and Sofiane Diop with Youssouf Fofana and Gelson Martins and his team retained control of the game until the break. And especially then because the players of the Principality settled in the last 30 meters of Girondins curiously passive in spite of their numerical superiority.

The active Gelson Martins placed a small recovery from the left just to the right of the target (50th). Ben Yedder again just missed the frame (57th). Bordeaux’s defense, the worst in Europe at the time of kick-off, ended up cracking when Gelson Martins struck from the left towards the center before firing a shot that Ahmedhozic countered from six meters and which bounced off the unfortunate Marcelo to finish in the back of the net (1-1, 67th).

After 25 league days, the Bordelais still haven’t completed a single game without taking a goal, but this equalizer forced them to shake themselves up. They showed a great offensive desire in a disputed end to the match and Alexander Nübel had to work against the stirring Hwang Ui-Jo (82nd). Gideon Mensah also forced Caio Henrique to push back in front of his line (90th + 1) while the incoming Monegasque Maghnes Akliouche had alerted Poussin (87th). Bordeaux have at least avoided the worst and put an end to a series of two defeats. The stakes will be higher during the next two days with a trip to Clermont and the reception of Troyes, promoted who also play their skin in the elite.
